DSU’s Laptop Program:  FAQs

 

Are students required to participate in the Laptop Program at DSU?

Yes! All incoming students taking 6 or more on-campus credits must participate in DSU’s Laptop Program.

 

Can I participate in the program as an online student?

Online students are NOT placed in this program.  Online students can purchase from used inventory (if available).    
 

Can I bring my own computer while I am participating in the Laptop Program?

Yes! You can bring your own laptop, desktop, Xbox, Play Station, Nintendo Switch or any other electronic device to campus. You can also use our wireless Internet to use any of these devices.

 

Do I get to keep the laptop?

Yes! If you participate in the DSU Laptop Program for 4 consecutive, uninterrupted years, the laptop assigned to you becomes yours to keep for a minimal fee. To remain eligible, you must retain your assigned device over the summer months (regardless of summer registration).

 

How do I opt out of the Laptop Program?

Students can only opt out of the Laptop Program if they have participated for 3 years (9 consecutive semesters at DSU). 

Click link to complete the DSU Opt-Out Request - Online Form, be sure to review the requirements before completing form.  You will receive an email notification once approved or denied.  Students can complete a paper copy of this form at the Support Desk in the Karl Mundt Library.
 


Can I keep my device over the summer months?

Yes.  Whether you are taking summer courses or not, students who are pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester can retain their tablet over the summer. 

ALL students that would like to retain their tablet over the summer, and meet the requirements (registered for upcoming fall semester), MUST complete a Summer Retain request.  

Click link to complete the Summer Retain - Online Form.  Complete the form by entering your information and then click Submit.  You will receive an email notification once approved or denied.  Students can also complete a paper copy of this form at the Support Desk in the Karl Mundt Library.

Note: If you want to remain eligible to keep your laptop after 4 years, you MUST retain it over the summer.


Can I purchase my assigned device?

Yes.  You have the option to purchase your device if you are transferring to a different school, are not returning to DSU, or are not eligible to keep your laptop after 4 years. Students can check with the Support Desk or the Fujitsu Pricing KB for current semester’s pricing sheet (coming soon).  A Purchase Form can be completed at the Support Desk or online (DSU Laptop Purchase Online Form), payment must be made to the Cashier’s office.
