Everbridge: Emergency Notification Program Overview

Introduction

Dakota State University participates in the SDBoR Campus Alert System. The Everbridge Mass Notification (MN) Campus Alert System is a System selected application to provide emergency alert notifications to active members (i.e. students, faculty, staff, and non-employee staff that report regularly to a university location).

In order to be able to provide campus users with timely information in the event of emergency status at each location, users need to sign up for Emergency Alert Program and set their preferences of how to receive this information. We are able to provide users with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected closures, missing persons, security concerns, and evacuations of buildings.

Users will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as home, mobile or business phones, email address, text messages and more. You pick where, you pick how.

How It Works

When the University issues a notification about a potential safety hazard or concern, users will receive an email message by default on the voice and text communication methods you have registered. If requested for the alert notification, users can confirm that they have received the message and user will not be contacted by any subsequent methods regarding that alert. If users do not confirm, the system will continue to notify all contact paths that have been provided by the user.

The contact methods are:

  • Mobile Phone
  • SMS (text message sent to mobile phone)
  • Second Mobile Phone
  • Home Phone
  • Business Phone
  • Campus Assigned Email (this is the default setting)
  • Secondary Email
Sign Up for Notifications

New students and employees will receive an email from Everbridge.net that will allow them to sign-up for this free service. Your DSU mail account (i.e.  username@pluto.dsu.edu, first.last@trojans.dsu.edu or first.last@dsu.edu) will be automatically selected to receive alerts. You can tailor your alerts to any combination of the above methods. We want to make sure we are sending you emergency alerts in the way that works best for you.

Add contact method information into the Mass Notification system. All information provided will be kept strictly confidential.

Stop Receiving Notifications

Users will stop receiving notification when user contact information has been removed from the system.  This will happen automatically when student’s status has ended at the institution OR manually through a system administrator for the institution based on validated qualification.

IT IS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW THAT ALL SDBOR INSTITUTIONS MAINTAIN A METHOD OF CONTACTING CAMPUS USERS IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES.  ALL USERS WILL REMAIN IN THE SYSTEM AS LONG AS THERE IS A VALID REASON.  THERE IS NO OPT-OUT OPTION FOR THIS SYSTEM.
