Overview
A virtual machine (VM) is essentially a computer that runs on a server located in our data center. In contrast, a physical machine is the laptop or desktop you use at your desk. Both types of machines function similarly, but instead of being physically present at your desk, the virtual machine resides on the server. You connect to the virtual machine remotely through your physical device using software that handles the connection. At DSU, we use VMware Horizon Client to make this process easy and efficient.
Once connected, the virtual machine behaves just like the computer on your desk, but all processing is handled on the server. This setup allows us to access the software that we need from anywhere with an internet connection and a computer.

All DSU staff, faculty, and students currently enrolled in certain classes.

DSU and personal devices.
Resolution
Installing the VMware Horizon Client

Click or navigate to vm.dsu.edu.

From here there will be two options:

To install the client, click on Install VMware Horizon Client. This will take you to a list of supported operating systems.

Find your device’s operating system from the list, then click GO TO DOWNLOADS.
NOTE: If you are unsure of which version to select, please contact Support Services.

Click DOWNLOAD NOW to begin downloading.

Once the download is complete, open the installer and follow the prompts. Select Agree & Install to begin the installation.

When the installation finishes, click Finish. You’ll then have the option to Restart Now or Restart Later.
NOTE: You must restart your device before you can start using the software.
Acessing Your Virtual Machines

Open the VMware Horizon Client.

If you have an icon that says vm.dsu.edu, double-click to connect.

Log in using your DSU email and password.
NOTE: DUO authentication is required to proceed.

At the DUO prompt, you can choose one of two methods:

Open the DUO app on your phone, get the passcode, and enter it into the Enter Your Next Code field. Then click Login.

To to receive a DUO push, enter 1 into the Enter Your Next Code field and click Login.

Once logged in, double-click on the VM you want to access.
