The Quality Assurance Rubric, for the Assessment and Measurement Section 1.3 states: 

Assessments and measurement strategies provide timely and detailed feedback to the student.

Expectations

  1. Students learn more effectively if they receive frequent, meaningful, and rapid feedback. This feedback can come back directly from you or by feedback built into your assessments.
  2. The syllabus should clarify HOW/WHERE students will receive grades/feedback (e.g. what tool(s) will be used to provide feedback) and WHEN students will receive grades/feedback (e.g. turnaround time)
  3. Specific turn around times should be stated (see example below).

 

Examples

  • "I will return your research papers two weeks after the submission deadline, or perhaps earlier if I have completed grading them before that time. This feedback, as well as your grade, will be available via Turnitin in the Dropbox."

Example 1: Online Psychology Course

Feedback Strategy: Weekly Quizzes

Syllabus Statement: "I will provide feedback on your weekly quizzes within 48 hours of the quiz deadline. Your grades and detailed feedback on each question will be available via the quiz tool in Desire2Learn. Feedback Strategy: Discussion Posts

You will receive individual comments and a grade through the discussion tool in Desire2Learn. Feedback will focus on the relevance of your contributions, the depth of your analysis, and the engagement with your peers."

Explanation: This strategy emphasizes timely and meaningful feedback on student engagement and critical thinking in discussions, promoting active participation and continuous learning.


Example 3: Online Mathematics Course

Feedback Strategy: Homework Assignments

Syllabus Statement: "Homework assignments will be graded and returned within one week of the submission deadline. Feedback will be provided through the assignments tool in Desire2Learn, including detailed solutions and step-by-step explanations for each problem. This will help you understand your mistakes and learn the correct methods."
