How To:  Back Up Course Components

 

Overview:

As D2L is now hosted by a central server, each campus does not have the capability to perform system back on a periodic basis. Instructors are strongly encouraged to perform course backup to avoid possible data loss.
 

Back Up Instructions:

To back up your course or course components, do the following:

Select Edit Course from the navigation bar.
Select Import/Export/Copy Components
Select Export Components and Include course files in the export package

Select all or some components and click Continue to proceed.

The next page will allow you to confirm or modify the selection. Make sure that the box is checked to include course files in the export package. Click Continue to move on.

The export process may take a while if you have lots of things to export. If everything goes well, you’ll see green checkmarks. Click Finish to move on.

Click Finish and you’ll see a link on the next page asking you to download the exported zip package. Click to save the zip package to your desktop.

Export Grades

The Export tool includes only course files; it does not include student data, such as student grades and their assignment submissions.  To archive student grades, do the following.

Select Grades under the Assessments menu on the course navigation bar. Select Enter Grades and then select Export.

By default, all users and all grade items are selected, though you can change the selections.

Select either Export to CSV or Export to Excel
 

The next page will give you a link to download and save the export file.
