Creating Modules

Content Overview

The Content section in D2L Brightspace is a dynamic and integral part of this Learning Management System, designed for efficient organization and distribution of course materials in higher education. It allows instructors to create structured modules for resource organization, offers tools for uploading and managing diverse educational materials, and includes functionalities for direct content creation. Additionally, it features access control for paced learning, seamless integration with other D2L tools, and provides analytics for tracking student engagement. This makes the Content section a versatile and user-friendly platform, conducive to both teaching and learning, adaptable to various instructional strategies and course formats. The Content area in D2L is the primary place to add files and other learning materials and share them with students. It can also be used to organize all of your course activities.

Modules

Modules in D2L Brightspace serve as the foundational building blocks for course content organization, allowing instructors to structure their course materials in a cohesive and accessible manner. They enable the categorization of learning resources and activities into distinct sections, typically organized by week, topic, or thematic units. This structuring aids in guiding students through the course in a logical and sequential order, enhancing the learning experience. The flexibility of modules allows for the integration of various resource types, such as readings, videos, and interactive activities, and can be customized with release conditions to pace student access. This modular approach fosters an organized, focused, and engaging online learning environment.

How do I create a Module in D2L?

 

Step 1

From Course Admin or your NavBar - select Content.

Step 2

Under the Table of Contents on the left side of the screen, select the "Add a moduleā€¦" box.

 

Step 3

Enter a name for the module in the input-text box.

Step 4

Hit return (or enter) on the keyboard.

 

How do I set the module status to hidden?

 

*Note  - By default all modules are set to Visible.

 

Step 1

Select Content on the Navigation Bar.

Step 2

Select the module you would like to set the status for, under the Table of Contents on the left side.

Step 3

Select the eye icon.

Step 4

Select the toggle to set the module to Hidden.

Step 5

You will see a slash through the eye icon if the status is hidden.

How do I edit a module?

 

Step 1

Select the name of the Module under the Table of Contents that you would like to edit.

Step 2

To Edit the Title:

  1. Select the dropdown arrow.
  2. Select Edit Title.
  3. Type in the box the new title.

To Edit Dates or Restrictions:

1. Select Add dates and restrictions.

2. Enter dates and restrictions to update the release times.

3. Select Update.

To Edit the Description:

1. Select Add a description.

2. Enter text to provide an overview of the module. 

 

3. Select Update.

 

 

How do I add a sub-module?

 

Step 1

Select Content on the Navigation Bar.

Step 2

Select the module you would like to create the sub-module for under the Table of Contents.

Step 3

Select the words, 'Add a sub-module.'  Then, enter a name for the sub-module in the input-text box.

Hit return (or enter) on the keyboard.
