Summary

With-in this KB you will learn how to change your initial MADREN password and enroll in the Self-Service Password Reset.

Body

Change initial password and enroll in self-service

Overview:

With-in the MADREN we utilize Microsoft Azure Active Directory. You will first need to change your initial password, and from there this will enroll you in the Self-Service Password Reset portal where you can change your own password if you forget it.

Before You Begin:

You should have received a welcome email from a member of ITS with your initial user name and password. If you did not receive it please contact your Research Leader and have them request an account for you.

Solution:

  1. Please navigate to https://login.microsoftonline.com

  2. In the open text field, enter your new MADREN email address from the welcome email you received and click Next.  This should be similar to 'FirstName.LastName@madren.org' Next enter your initial password and click NextOn the next page, it will prompt you to change your initial password.  Re-enter your initial password and then your new password on the next two lines and click Next. The only requirement is that it needs to be a minimum of 20 characters.

  3. After you click next, you will more than likely be greeted with a message that says your password has been updated successfully, but it will take a few minutes before everything gets replicated from Azure down to the MADREN Active Directory.  Wait a minute or two and then navigate back to https://login.microsoftonline.com, where you can now sign in with your new password.

  4. Before you can successfully sign in your will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). You will need 2 forms of MFA.  Typically we use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, and SMS text messaging.  The wizard will walk you through the setup of both.

  5. Once signed in you will have access to the whole Microsoft Office suite.  (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, etc). This also enrolls you in the Self-Service Password Reset portal as well.
