Duo: Enable MFA during Voluntary Enrollment Period

Tags Duo MFA

Overview:

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) strengthens access security by requiring two methods (also referred to as factors) to verify your identity. These factors can include something you know (like a username and password), plus something you have (like a smartphone app or hardware token) to approve authentication requests.

MFA protects against phishing, social engineering, and password brute-force attacks and secures your logins from attackers exploiting weak or stolen credentials.

DSU has chosen Duo for our MFA solution. Duo does not replace or require you to change your username and password. Think of Duo as a layer of security added to DSU’s pre-existing login method.

Before You Begin:

If you have not completed your Account Setup or configured your Security Questions and Alternate email, please visit support.dsu.edu and take a look at our Knowledge Base articles on setting up your DSU Network Password.

Please perform this setup on your computer and have your mobile device handy.

Enable DUO MFA:

  1. Navigate to mydsu.dsu.edu
  2. Click 'Manage My Account'
  3. Under 'Manage My Account', Sign in using your DSU credentials
  4. A prompt should appear, explaining MFA at DSU. To continue enabling MFA, click 'Activate'.
  • Note: The initial activation can take up to 30 seconds to complete. If you receive an error during activation, please contact the Support Desk.
  • Note: If the prompt does not appear, you’ve either already visited this page - and clicked “Cancel” in the prompt – or MFA has already been enabled on your account.
  1. Follow the steps in the Duo Device Management Portal to complete the enrollment process.
  • Note: You will need to give the Duo Mobile app permission to use your smart phone's camera to scan the enrollment QR code. It is also recommended to allow the Duo Mobile app to send Notifications.
  • Note: After you click "Continue to Login", your enrollment is complete!

Recommendation - Enable DUO Restore:

Duo Mobile's restore functionality lets you back up Duo-protected accounts and third-party OTP accounts (such as Google or Facebook) for recovery to the same device or to a new device.

Enable Duo Restore by following the directions here.

Troubleshooting:

If you run into any issues during the setup process, please contact the Support Desk or open a ticket at support.dsu.edu.
