WinZip

WinZip is not part of WebCT, but it can make file uploading easy if you need to upload multiple files at once. WinZip is available from http://www.winzip.com

WinZip has two user interfaces: Classic and Wizard. We'll use the Classic for our demo. If yours pops up as Wizard, you can click the WinZip Classic button to switch to the Classic Interface

The following is the Classic interface. Click the New button in the Classic interface to create a new zip file:

WinZip will then ask you to name the new zip file. I named it "student3z". Click the OK button to create the file.

WinZip will then ask you to pick files to be zipped. It's a good practice to put all of your target files into a folder. I created a "student3" folder on my desktop to hold my target files. Double click that folder and open it.

WinZip will display all the files (and sub folder(s), if any) in the opened "student3" folder. I had two files and a sub folder named "images" in the student3 folder.

Leave the *.* symbols in the File name box if they are there by default. The wildcard * means "any". So, *.* means anyfilename.anyextension. Make sure that the Include subfolders option is checked.

Click the Add with wildcards button. It'll add all the files (and sub folders) in the selected folder.

After you have clicked the Add (with wildcards) button to add files to zip, WinZip will return to the Classic file listing window. You'll see all the files that have been zipped.

Please note that sub folders won't show up in this file listing, but the files in sub folders will be listed. When you unzip (extra) the files from the zip, the original sub folders will be retained.

When uploading zipped files to WebCT, we usually want to unzip in WebCT.
