Email Attachment

Email attachment can potentially contain any type of file, including files that can automatically run and control your computer. The general advice is: Don't open an attachment unless you're expecting such an attachment. Some virus-containing emails may appear as if from an acquaintance.

Opening an attachment containing viruses can affect not only your computer but also any networked computers if your computer is part of a network.

Microsoft Outlook can be configured to block certain attachments, typically files that have .exe file extension, and files that contain macros or other scripts. For instance, the DSU Exchange server blocks Microsoft Access file with .mdb extension as email attachment.
