How to Use the Site

This site is intended to serve as a central hub for service units to post their supporting resources and for DSU staff and students to search for supporting resources which include Web resources available on department Web sites, answers to frequently asked questions, guidelines on procedures, tips on troubleshooting, and tutorials on administrative or technical applications.

There are three ways to search for support resources on this site:

  1. Browse through the expandable directory on the left
  2. Browse through the Site Map
  3. Search by category and/or keyword

  1. Directory --- The directory on the left side provides a hierarchical view of the primary supporting resources provided by each department or office. If an item has a plus symbol in front of it, it means it's expandable. You can click the symbol to expand the directory.

  2. Sitemap: The sitemap is a complete view of the links in the directory structure. The links in the sitemap are synchronized with the links in the directory.

  3. Search: The category and keyword search can look through the knowledgebase that collects the additional resources contributed by different service units. The additional resources include frequently asked questions (FAQ's), tips, and guidelines.

Guidelines on Keyword Search:

  1. Case insensitive: "FrontPage" is the same as "frontpage"
  2. Two words are different from one word: "front page" is different from "frontpage".
  3. Different keyword combinations return different results: "WebCT Archive" is different from "WebCT Course Archive" or "WebCT Quiz Archive"
  4. Specific keywords generally turn out better targeted results than generic words. For instance, "FrontPage backup" would be more specific than "FrontPage help".
  5. Try different keyword combinations. For instance, try "FrontPage backup" if "FrontPage archive" did not return what you are looking for.
