Exporting a WebCT Course as a Package (IMS compliant)

1. In your WebCT course, select Control Panel > Manage Course > Export Content > Export Course (Export entire course for import into WebCT CE 6.0).
2. The exported course will be saved as zip file under “My Files” in WebCT.
3. Select Control Panel > Manage Files
4. Find the exported zip file and download it to your desktop.
5. Save a copy of the exported zip in a secure location.

Importing the Exported Zip to D2L

1. In your D2L course, select Edit Course > Import Components > From a File.
2. Click the Browse button to find the zip file on your desktop and click the Next button to proceed. D2L may take a while to process the import if the zip is large.
3. D2L will show the destination folder to import and overwrite options. The default option is: Not overwrite existing files.
4. You can select all or some of the components to import.
5. Click the Next button again to continue.
6. D2L will give a confirmation if the import is successful.

What Will Be Included in the Transfer from WebCT to D2L?

1. All the Organizer Pages, Single Pages, URLs, and Content Modules from WebCT will be migrated as modules in the single Content Area of D2L.
2. Content Modules from WebCT will be appended to the end of the existing content in the D2L course if there's any existing content.
3. Question Database from WebCT will be migrated to Question Library in D2L, with some loss of information:
    
   • True/False exported from WebCT will not be auto graded in D2L.
   • Short answers without sequence from WebCT lose the answers when converted to D2L and are therefore not auto graded in D2L.
   • Short answers with sequence in WebCT have answers repeated N x N times for each blank and the sequence is unavailable when converted to D2L.
   • Sequence of answers is not enforced.
4. Quizzes will be migrated.

What Won't Be Included in the Transfer from WebCT to D2L?

1. Student data (assignment submissions, quiz results, grades, discussion participation) will NOT be included.

Migrating a WebCT Content Module or Quizzes to D2L

Migrating a whole WebCT course to D2L may not be the best choice in some cases, as the Content Area in D2L can be configured and used very differently from what’s possible in WebCT. If what you need to migrate is content module or quizzes only in WebCT, you can select a content module or quizzes, instead “Export Course”, in the Export Content page of WebCT.
